Things I learned yesterday

Let your family and friends know how much you appreciate them. Is there someone you're worried about? Tell that person you're worried. Give him or her a chance to lay those burdens down for a while. There may not be anything you can do, but do what you can, before it's too late.

And also? I learned that Cold Mountain is indeed a sucky movie, but that I can stare at Jude Law quite happily for a very, very long time.

Finally? Small town parties are scary.

Hmm. Well, it was a pretty movie visually speaking, but I felt short changed in many ways. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I didn't feel a connection with Nicole Kidman's character at all, though I did feel some sympathy for Jude Law's character. At every turn it was *far* too predictable, and I felt cheated by that fact. Kept waiting for them to surprise me. The ending, in particular, felt cliched. I guess I've seen too many civil war movies, but when the story being told in a movie is utterly predictable, it needs greatness in terms of character connection to keep me happy, and this one just didn't. I also felt the pacing was off, dragging far too little plot out for way too long as a way to get more gorgeous scenery on screen. Overall, it was a fair movie, but given the press that preceded it, it rates a "wait for HBO" on my meter.

Hmm..I sat and cried the whole way through for all the characters. I do agree the ending was seen way before it happened, but I don't know. I didn't think the plot lacked, I just thought it was brilliant.

Anyway, thanks for replying so quick *g*
