Things I hate

Worse than shopping do not come easily to mind. Possibly having my skin shredded by a cheese grater, then doused with vinegar.

The problem with shopping, you see, is that I go shopping when I want or need something. Something usually very specific. And when it comes to clothing? I.Can.Never.Find.What.I.Want.

Usually, it's something plain and fairly classic. Maybe that's the trouble.

Anyone with the ability to point me towards a black halter style evening/cocktail dress (longish full skirt, a la Christian Dior silk in the 1950s, if you want to hit the bullseye) will earn a favor, whatever you name. I could go for another dark color than black if I had to in order to get the style I want. Timing is of the essence. I am being dragged next weekend to a black-tie masquerade ball.

Seriously. Help???

This helps?

Re: This helps?
Pretty close! I'm not sure if the jersey material will go over, but if I don't find something else soon soon, I can definitely live with this. Perfection = this in a dressier fabric with a longer, fuller skirt. The top is perfection.

I don't have any help to offer, but it sounds lovely! Are you going as someone in particular, or just black-tie with masks? Hope you find what you're looking for.

Just black tie with masks, though I suppose I could claim June Cleaver or Donna Reed....

Well, I could point you to the pattern, but I don't think you've got time to make it before next weekend...

Re: The Trevails of Shopping
I'm with you. I thought I was a freak -- a female who hates to shop. But I do. I think the stores are a hassle and it's so hard to find things I like.

Other women around me seem to soak up the whole shopping experience. They actually enjoy lugging bags around and juggling them as they scout out undiscovered loot. They'll even go bug the salesgirls to check the non-displayed inventory for the item they love, but isn't precisely the color they want.

Ick. I want to walk in, buy my skirt and leave. And, unfortunately, I don't have a clue where you can find what you need. Good luck with your search and let us know how you do!

How's come you aren't wanting something practical, like the stripey Convese sneaks I just bought last night?

(I have a sickness, I know, but they were so cute!)

Well, I think you may have found it, but in local shops - for black or white garb, there's a chain of stores, one is at Crabtree and another at South Point, I believe, called White House/Black Market. Don't know if you've checked there, but they tend to have a nice selection of pieces that could work.
