Friends history meme

For posterity. I like this meme, I think, but with so many folks on the flist, it will be much, much easier to write out responses here for everyone. Here are the original memeish questions:

How did you first hear of/meet me?

Where and when did you first hear my name/see my work/meet me? with what people/series/groups etc. do you associate me and my writing? This is not a praise or feedback meme, this is just to track the path of my online presence and to see the connections involved, to find out how people link together.

I can do this. I think. In three or four batches.

10zlaine, I think I found you in Alanna's LJ, sometime the first week after she lured me over here. Associations? Will always be to Rick Springfield, sanity during kerfluffles before I knew to call them that, and to Snow White.

_green_ I remember when you turned up, and I have no earthly idea why you friended me, but I've always been very glad you did. You bring out the motherly instinct in me, and I adore your effervescence. Your fic is invariably beautiful, but I think it was that snippet that you posted and then removed that truly made you an unloseable 'friend'. No specific pairing, though vaguely Spike oriented.

amandakb I can't remember whether you friended me or the other way around. But I do remember when you joined SS, at Evenstar's behest. Spike, of course. I'd still love to read the end of Blurry some day.

anniesj One of the first people I friended upon arriving at LJ. You were my writerly hero then, and are still today. You're an impressive writer, a wonderfully entertaining LJer, and just fun to be around. And god, Spike and Buffy. You write lots, but you'll always be in that list of NC-17 writers who were responsible for my coming to fandom in the first place.

ariane5 Don't remember when you got an LJ, either. But I know you from the Gutter, and you're mostly with William in my head. That, and poetry.

babyotto Oh lord, plenty of history here. An aussie with a positive orientation, and lover of all things Spike redemptiony. And Ganya. You and Lori led the pack on that one...

blue_larkspurA recent addition, and friended because you friended me. I know we have friends in common, and are an author, but I haven't done the detective thing yet, so that's about all I can say. Hope I don't bore you to tears!

bogwitchHoohoo! I remember when we friended mutually. It was around about the plagiarism kerfluffle, right? Again with the Spike associations. I sense a trend...

bonibaru Another recent addition. I friended you because you'd friended me, and also because I knew the writercon programming lead had started chasing you around because of the con and wanting you there. I associate you most closely with fic crit, via BBF, I think, but also as an HP writer. But I honestly don't know which pairings you favor...

ceitnicangusOne word: Bitey!

chenanceouOh lord have mercy, do I even need to explain? Gutter, Beta appreciation day. And, Copacabana. Spike. You turned up here, I friended you. Simple as that. And, as for characters? Charlie is the one who will always stay with me, regardless of the fact that she's not a BtVS character.

cissyh You're not still here anymore, I don't think, but I added you when I saw you in Alanna's LJ, because you're a real world writer and someone whose posts I'd always admired. Association is more with discussion groups than fic, although we do have a partial of one of yours archived from a couple or three seasons ago. Spike redemptionish and mostly S/B, as I recall.

ck594usWell, you've always been there, right? I don't remember when you joined the LJ crowd, but it all runs together for a certain bunch of us, and you're in the thick of it. I remember how completely and utterly in awe of your prolific fic I was -- and how floored that you liked my weird stuff, way back when. S/B serials with great plot and always romantic.

claudia_yvrHmm. How *did* we meet? Was it Jodyorjen? Or Alanna? Or my Willowy bits via Lyric? I can't remember. But you're so well traveled, and I've always enjoyed reading your posts! Wish we saw more of you here, but as another managerial type, I totally understand that the energy to write here can be hard to come by for long, long stretches. S/W is the pairing for you!

darkravine I knew you from ff.net and Truth, and then met you in Chicago. I think maybe that's where I learned you had an LJ and friended... Isn't that a weekend that will stay in memory for a long, long time? Spike fic, obviously. More specifically S/B.

darkrhiannonOops! Too many rhiannons! You are a new friend, and one I'm glad to have. We've met via Writercon just recently, and I've really enjoyed paging back through your journal for all of the articles and commentary. There's no doubt that I associate you with darkish B/Aus fic, not smallville. I'll repeat this when I do the R's, in case you got disgusted when you saw I couldn't keep your alias straight here ;-)

rhiannonheroHee. I'll repeat yours when I get to the R's, as well. Having two rhiannons on my flist tripped me up. This one was meant for you: Hmm. I'm pretty sure I found you on my friendsfriends page. It was all of the yummy lyrics and poetry you post that drew me in. And, obviously, Smallville and positivism is my association for you.

db2305Gutterite! I tend to think of you as an S/B writer who also wrote different pairings that I've enjoyed just as much. Long and plotty!

dettiotGosh, I think we met at fic chats eons ago, right? And can't remember precisely when you turned up here or whether you friended me or the other way around. You're just one of the gals to me, and of the S/B 'flavor'. *g*

diva_stardustOh! Now here's a story. You friended me very early on, but never posted anything. Not a peep. Until finally, I figured yours was an abandoned journal. I'm sporadic about adding friends back, because I forget to check the info page, but I kept thinking you'd post something. Then I went through a brief period of total paranoia, and defriended you. It wasn't long after that when I started seeing you *post* on my friendsfriends page. I realized you weren't a stalker, and added you in again. I think of you mostly as one of my favorite fic pimps, and a Spawnish sort.

dragolynKeeper of the Truth. I remember you from ff.net, and that I followed you to CW for my brief stint there. I never fit in with that crowd, though, and kinda faded away. Then I met you at a con, and learned you were here. Voila! Friends. S/B.

drinkthepoisonxHee. Shore Leave. Can't remember if you friended me when you got here, or if I noticed you in someone's journal and friended you first. Spike, pairingless, and AAS, obviously. You will always be a brunette with a purple streak in my mind.

elfgirlAh, you were one of the early LJers who took pity on me and friended me when Alanna sent out notice that I was here and good people. I don't think of you with a pairing at all, but as a Spike fan. I tend more to think of you as someone who parties in some fascinating ways and has a really unique perspective on life.

elizard100Where'd we meet again? I think Chicago. But I didn't learn you were on LJ til last fallish. I think of you as a JM fan more than a Spike fan, and I have no idea who you ship, if anyone. Probably S/B, if the Colleen connection holds true. Your sense of humor is what I will always think of first when someone says 'eliz'.

elsaf
I remember your reluctance to join LJ. Still very glad you are here. Spike is your character, with heavily S/B leanings. But I tend to associate you more with a generalized 'voice of reason' temperament and Jazz. Guess why?

elzI remember when you came! I think I sired you, didn't I? Spike. Some S/B. A heavy dose of iconage and Farscape. But mostly? Endlessly entertaining analysis.

enclavedHee. How many people know the Sandlot would have been eaten alive by 'bots if not for your assistance in rewriting the Sandlot? No pairing, obviously, though I do think you should write more.

esseneI was so shy about friending you. Really. You write wonderful fic, and are so clearly smart and together. Spawn pimped by Diva Stardust is what drew the friending, though. I live in hope of more, but all the other stuff is what keeps me in awe.

estepheiaGosh, I can't remember when I friended you...was it after Tampa? It's as if you've always been there, really, but I was shy to friend you. I used to follow along via friendsfriends. I don't associate you with a specific pairing, though. More with a particular style of plotty fic and an earnest writer in general.

Okay, that's about a quarter of you. Fingers tired. More later...

Oh heavens, BBF. I've been gone from there so many months I nearly forgot I was ever on it.

But I honestly don't know which pairings you favor...

Buffy: Buffy/Spike (when done to my personal specs, LOL, that is to say, not as the majority does it); Buffy/Angel (see also Buffy/Spike)
Angel: Angel/Wes, Wes/Gunn, Wes/Lilah, Wes/Faith (are you sensing a pattern here)
Firefly: Mal/me (heh), Simon/Jayne, Jayne/Vera (the true love of a man for his gun)
Everwood: Ephram/Colin, Ephram/Bright
HP: Harry/Draco, Sirius/Remus, occasional forays into other pairings
Smallville: Clark/Lex
Yami No Matsuei: Tsuzuki/Tatsumi
Good Omens: Crowley/Aziraphile
Lamb: Biff/Josh
Narnia: Edmund/Bacchus
Gone With The Wind: Rhett/Scarlett, Rhett/Ashley

I am polyfandomous. But Buffy, Angel, Smallville, HP are my main squeezes.

Re:
Ooooh! GWTW! Another writer to tack onto my list of 'when I get enough projects finished to start a new one GWTW rip off set in Buffyverse' writer potentials...

No Star Wars?

Re:
For SW I would have to say Luke/Han if any. But I haven't seen any but the first three movies.

I forgot, Dark is Rising, Will/Bran.

That's such a cool idea. Am feeling guilty now.

But let me meme for *you*. Um...early days of Spikes Salvation and the Gutter. Your lovely stories, built on metaphor. Organizational goddess. At Tampa, you and Kimi and Mintwitch et al, the cool kids, hanging out by the front door.

Hugs!

Re:
*hugs you back*

The cool kids?? It's so truly, truly odd to hear someone put that particular label on me. One of these days, I'd love to have time to meet you for real...

(and don't feel guilty -- I'm an idiot for even attempting this, but it feels in some small measure like repayment for feedback owed...you're one of the worlds' best about feedback and I'm lousy)

I don't think I was one of the cool kids in Tampa. Not sure where I was most of the time. I know I wish I had spent more time with you.

Not to spam Chris's LJ -- I don't know where you were! You and Melissa and Chen always seemed to slip away from me. ;-)

La Serenissima
First - Awww... Charlie and I thank you.

We met online - Spike Salvation chats, posts, fics... Beta! You were the go to person to cure block. Then we met in person and I found out that you weren't just cool online - you were this really special, grounded and smart woman. I still remember the talks we've had and the no bullshit, straightforward way you talk. I so admire you for it.
Much hugs, hon. See you in July. J. is taking care of it :-)

LOL! A couple of years from now, you will *still* be calling them dumb questions, and I'll still be telling you they aren't... I have a feeling this is the begining of a wonderful friendship.

My darling busy bee, I really think it was back in the days of gutterdom and Spike's Salvation, way before LJ. Didn't we meet for two seconds at shore leave--which is pre-LJ for me? I'd have to check my *publishing dates* (heh), but it's been a couple of years. time flies!

Re:
Grins. Yes, all three of my associations are way, way pre-LJ. But I'm supposed to be chronicling all of this for *LJ* history. Folks like you make it hard, though! Actually, more than half my friends list is that way...interesting that we all ended up here, in this nicely balanced, easier to lurk in, place, eh?

What a lovely thing to do, Chris! I can't recall how we first met, but I'm very happy that we did. Also, in case I haven't mentioned it yet, a BIG thanks for all the hard work you're doing on WriterCon! I'm still not sure I can make it, but it sounds like it's going to be quite an amazing event in fandom.

What a lovely meme, Chris! Thankyou. (belatedly).
FWIW, I'm still positive, although semi-unspoiled -- we've only just seen the "two Lornes" episode here and I'm just too busy (and lazy) to download this season.

::sheepish looks::

I ought to finish this meme. RL, as usual, got entirely in the way after part 3ish of these. I quit spoiling in late S6 mostly and entirely after Grave, and though I hadn't intended it to be permanent, it felt much better to me. The conflict and angst that comes with spoiling just didn't suit my temperament, I think... Watch out for the wrestler episode. It was almost enough to make me quit Angel altogether, and I *am* still positive! *grins*
