Mmmm. Reading all that wonderful poetry

In Anniesj's journal sent me scurrying off to find my favorite dark S/B reminder poem...

Echo -- Christina Rossetti

COME to me in the silence of the night;
Come in the speaking silence of a dream;
Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright
As sunlight on a stream;
Come back in tears,
O memory of hope, love of finished years.

Oh dream how sweet, to sweet, too bitter sweet,
Whose waking should have been in Paradise,
Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet;
Where thirsting longing eyes
Watch the slow door
That opening, letting in, lets out no more.

Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live
My life again tho' cold in death:
Come back to me in dreams, that I may give
Pulse for pulse, breath for breath:
Speak low, lean low,
As long ago, my love, how long ago.

Ah, you can always count on Christina for good death-related fun. *g* That's a lovely poem, though, and it brings a very haunting image of the characters. (Fic-worthy image perhaps?)

Actually, I'm flipping through my anthology (<- poetry freak) and "What Would I Give?" seems very S6 Buffy:

What would I give for a heart of flesh to warm me through,
Instead of this heart of stone ice-cold whatever I do

Mmm. Like that, too...
Christina Rossetti's words always grab me, though she could have used an extra theme or three ;-) Fic-worthy image, yeah, I think so. But it's just an image for now -- I'm coming closer to figuring out the story that would put them there, but at the rate I produce these days, it could be another year before I get to it...
